Teeth Whitening

Dental discoloration can make even the most beautiful smiles appear lackluster. Over time, certain foods and beverages can stain the teeth. Fortunately, this can be addressed with professional teeth whitening at Well Rooted Dentistry. In certain cases, we can even brighten your smile by several shades in just one hour.

Your cosmetic dentist in Providence, RI uses only the safest, most effective teeth whitening systems available. Like all treatments, your teeth whitening regimen will be tailored to your unique needs. As always, our holistic dentists perform individual testing to ensure that patients do not have adverse reactions to these materials.

Extrinsic vs Intrinsic Stains

Before exploring our teeth whitening options, let’s discuss the two main types of dental stains. Extrinsic stains affect the enamel – the outermost layer of the teeth. This type of discoloration responds well to teeth whitening. Intrinsic stains occur deep within the tooth structure. They are often caused by genetics, trauma, or certain medications. In many cases, intrinsic discoloration must be treated with alternative therapies, such as dental bonding or porcelain veneers.

Teeth Whitening Treatments

At Well Rooted Dentistry, our holistic dentists offer two teeth whitening treatments: Zoom! and KöR. We’ll take a closer look at each one below.

Zoom! Teeth Whitening

Patients who want whiter teeth fast can choose Zoom!. Hence the name, it is one of the fastest-acting whitening treatments on the market.

During your appointment, your dentist will apply a hydrogen peroxide bleaching gel to the teeth, then place a special light over your mouth. This light activates the gel and breaks apart the bonds that create stains. The gel is left on the teeth for 20 minutes, then it is rinsed off. The process is repeated about three to four more times until the desired results are achieved.

Zoom! teeth whitening isn’t right for everyone. Patients with dental sensitivity could experience some degree of discomfort while undergoing this treatment. In these cases, our holistic dentists recommend KöR.

KöR Teeth Whitening

For those who cannot use Zoom!, KöR whitening is an excellent alternative. This process offers more comfortable treatment for those with extreme dental sensitivity. KöR can also address many deep-seated stains left behind by Zoom!, making teeth up to 16 shades brighter. There is one drawback to KöR, however; it takes about two weeks to achieve the desired results. As the old adage goes, good things come to those who wait.

KöR whitening involves both in-office and at-home treatments. Approximately two weeks before coming to your in-office session, your dentist will provide you with bleaching trays and a whitening gel. Patients must dispense the gel in the trays and wear them overnight, every night, prior to their appointment.

At the end of the two weeks, you will visit our office for the last phase of treatment. During this visit, your dentist applies a specialized bleaching gel. In some cases, patients may require a second visit to achieve the results they desire.

Personalized Care for Optimal Results

Like any procedure performed at Well Rooted Dentistry, we personalize treatment depending on your unique needs. Before recommending a specific teeth whitening option, our dentists will consider several factors, including the severity of your stains, your gum health, and your budget.
